BEING YOUR OWN BOSS

This essay was originally written in 1979 while we were living in Key West, Florida.  Have you ever felt like a slave of the system?  At some point in nearly everyone’s life, they think of being self-employed.  Especially those who follow the day-in and day-out routine of highly organized corporation, factory, or military work.  The ability to come to work at a decent hour, work at our true capacity and advance accordingly, live where we are most satisfied, and making everyday business decisions ourselves appeals for sure.  Being your own boss – wouldn’t it be nice . . .?
It is a tragedy that although many of us meditate on vocational or business freedom, we seldom consider personal freedom.  That freedom is the ability to achieve one’s greatest degree of happiness and fulfillment in life.  “Life, liberty, & the pursuit of Happiness.”  Now looking at the most reliable source of information on the subject we find that each of us has a profound obstacle to being personally free.  In fact, natural man is said to be in bondage to the god of this world.  “When you did not know God, you were in bondage to beings that by nature are no gods.”  “The god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not.”  Paul the apostle was told by no less than the resurrected Christ to go to the gentiles, “to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God.”  Non – Jews are the “gentiles” Paul was writing about.  Even US American “gentiles” who are nearly 2000 years from Paul’s time.
The Word of God comes across equally as plain and simple on many other subjects also.  However, instead of proving its claims by the evidence and trusting its doctrines, people often attack its credibility & authority.  This may seem to be a small matter, but it effectively confirms and strengthens Satan’s legal claim on our lives.  Playing ourselves into his hands is rather foolish considering that his objective is “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” US.  And when I look at all the frustration, brokenness, chaos, and general hopelessness all around, it appears that our adversary is doing his job well indeed.
Being your own boss through personal freedom can begin in your life today.  Jesus Christ said, “if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”  Another spokesman said, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”  Why not receive Christ right now and break away from the lower powers that are keeping you in bondage and seeking your destruction.  “Whenever men did accept him, he gave them the power to become sons of God.”  And that “power” will lead to the BEST VERSION OF OURSELVES, and I believe prosperity (whether we become self-employed or not.)
