Common Lies
This is an interesting planet especially considering how long & how many lies are out there. In this Gospel note I’ve tried to shine a light on only the most common:
-- “What a pretty baby that is” . . . – When actually you are thinking exactly the opposite.
-- “We can run this stop sign, no one will notice.” – Except that cop over there who needs one more citation for his shift quota.
-- Have you ever been lost as a motorist and asked a local where is the hwy. junction (or gas station, motel, groc. store, etc.), only to get deliberate false directions?
-- “We can go to Mars . . .” – we’re not only nationally broke, but why take on such an expensive & risky venture?? Weren’t those 6 manned moon landings enough??
-- “The race is to the swift” . . . There’s at least one tortoise saying NO – (and Scripture, Ecclesiastes 9:11).
-- “The earth is billions of years old.” For Biblical truth & value system see AnswersinGenesis.org which cultivates Godly info that is more healthy for the SOUL.
-- “I’ll have lots of friends in hell.” If so, the lost won’t see them for the darkness, & they’ll be too busy weeping & gnashing teeth to enjoy them anyway. Matthew 25:30
Well, I believe in our modern world it is possible to feed on a lot of common lies & baloney. Especially with hundreds of TV channels w/NO commitment to truth & desperate for viewers to watch their sponsor’s ads, which also have mainly a profit motive. Nothing needs to be said about Hollywood . . . “We are what we eat”, and taking in false material will result in unhealthy & out of balance lives. People should realize that the most subtle lies will be on religious subjects such as Jesus Christ & the Word. We live in a spiritual battle (according to that Book), and our adversary has had thousands of years to perfect his best lies & strategies. Very likely the biggest lie is this one: “We don’t need to be Born Again. As long as we are reasonably righteous God will accept us.” Famous characters of history would condemn that lie real fast – especially the Old Testament prophet Isaiah & Jesus Christ himself.
* Isaiah 64:6 KJV “. . . all our righteousness's are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”
* John 3:3, 19 & 36 “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God. . . And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. . . He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him.”
* John 10:1 & 9 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber; . . .I am the door; if anyone enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” Jesus said those things.
* 2 Corinthians 4:4 “the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the likeness of God.”
Much more could be said on the subject of lies – common or rare ones. But the main questions are: “are the lies of this dark world & it’s spirit taking me down?” –or- “Am I shielded from the devious curves that are thrown at me?” Psalm 84:11 “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; he bestows favor and honor. No good thing does the Lord withhold from those who walk uprightly.” This includes perspective to beat the lies of this world. (Usually) Choose Jesus & His Word, THEY are REAL & they are Alive.
