In What Do We Trust?
This country’s roots started about 1492, and in the parameters of faith it produced our founders & our constitution. “In God We Trust” has been on our money for the better part of a century. Nearly all of our schools & churches & courts held to Bible standards of religion, truth & justice, work ethic, man & woman marriage, etc... We Americans trusted in this value system for about 475 years. And it has produced phenomenal growth & progress; and saved the world from various international threats. But NOW what do we trust in??
-- Friends & social group – it’s almost religious how folks hold these.
-- Self & ego, youth & beauty – mostly according to Hollywood patterns.
-- Coffee??, alcohol, & devious drugs – the American mind is altercated . . .
-- Political Correctness – defined as avoiding any kind of speech or writing that would offend those groups who have a “special” agenda or value system, such as civil rights, LGBT rights, feminism, and environmental causes. P.C. seems to ram something down our throats contrary to personal freedom, & the “majority rules” fabric of this democracy.
-- Education & Science – man’s thinking is embraced as supreme.
-- Money – even though losing the gold standard has ruined the value of the dollar by 90% in the last 70 years.
-- Computers, addictive video games & instant commo. is/are the new “holy”.
-- Expensive medical & medicines – other leading countries have MUCH less costly medical.
-- Universal salvation – as in New Age (#56) & Other Gods (#188), which the Bible does not support – that “light” at the end of the tunnel may well be a “train” - (Lucifer & hell). 2 Corinthians 11:14 “. . . even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”
I believe the shift in the U.S. value system, and the drastic re-set from traditional Godly orientations is due in part to Deconstruction. That is “the notion that language is a hopelessly imperfect vehicle for the expression of ideas, and because words have no inherent meaning, “meaning” – all meaning – is relative . . .” David Thibodaux * Deconstruction is a philosophical theme which has been brewing in our universities for over 50 years. And guess what Book it especially targets . . .? Our adversary the devil is delighted to see it undermine our Judeo/Christian culture. We see the result of this devious thinking in our SCHOOLS, political parties, courts, organized anarchy endorsed by liberal governors, liberal churches, even families – NOTHING appears to be holy anymore . . . Some Scripture refs. that may apply:
“If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalms 11:3) “Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after false gods!” (Psalms 40:4) “He who despises the word brings destruction on himself, but he who respects the commandment will be rewarded.” (Proverbs 13:13) “He who trusts in his own mind is a fool; but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.” (Proverbs 28:26) “An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land; the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes?” (Jeremiah 5:30-31) “But he who takes refuge in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain.” (Isaiah 57:13b)
I realize from history that maybe the biggest challenge to the human race is to simply hang on to what is true & good. Like the Bible & “In God We Trust”. But it’s sad to witness today’s value shift. And especially sad is knowing that American people are classically ripe candidates for judgment & hell because of the Godly truth & traditions of the Judeo/Christian heritage that’s been here for over 500 years. (Hebrews 6:4-8). I would like to see a national revival & change in direction (before we lose this good country.) That “change” must start with the individual – like you & me. Choose Jesus, He is Alive. That gives “In God We Trust” real meaning. See also “The Eagle”, link 50.
