The Plane Crash
Ever since Orville & Wilbur got the first heavier than air machine off the ground in 1903, the airplane has increased in size, weight & speed. So have the crashes. Today, high-speed transportation is a massive & relatively safe industry, but what would the Wright Bros. think if they could see what they started for good & evil? The rude surprise of their "plane crashes" is amazing - the wonderful technological & expensive machine filled with humans falls out of the air & hits the ground and instantly becomes a Huge Mess of scattered & burnt debris. Now are there "plane crashes" in other arenas?
-- In genuine Asian food you will have "plane crash" chicken - chopped without rhyme or reason like it flew into a
brush chipper. (This G- note was written in SE Asia.)
-- The U.S. entertainment industry has gone from the wholesome themes of heroism, love & virtue of the 40's &
50's to the "plane crash" picture today of profanity, sex, violence, & kinkiness.
-- The music industry is now mostly a bizarre "plane crash" when you consider the lack of rhyme, melody, rhythm,
& decent message or theme.
-- Traditional marriage of one man & one woman is now reduced to shacking-up, and "anything goes" arrangements
with Supreme Court endorsement.
-- American politics appears to be a "plane crash". Our early founders would all be shocked at the partisan
bickering & gridlock of today.
-- How about "plane crash" theology - many of our Protestant & Catholic seminaries are so liberal in “denying the
Master who bought them” 2 Peter 2:1, their belief system is a scattered mess of hopeless debris, nearly
devoid of saving power.
-- Lets all hope & pray that planet earth doesn't get "fried" by a thermonuclear exchange. If just Russia & the
U.S. released only 10% of their warheads, that would be about 1500 strikes in the northern hemisphere. A
"Plane Crash" of the worst magnitude.
Well has God's original plan for his planet & humans been a successful "flight" or a "plane crash"?? The garden beginning as recorded in Genesis 1-3 did not go well. Then we see the total decline of humanity only a few chapters later, and the flood of Noah to annihilate our rebellious race & it's sin. A couple thousand years later we see Moses coming down from a mountain top meeting with God, only to find Israel partying like hell. He smashed the first 2 tablets of the Ten Commandments in frustration, Exodus 32:19. (That was early writing by the way – 1500 or more BC.) The times of the Judges & Kings show dramatically how the chosen people struggled with growth & development; then disobedience, apostasy, & decline - a series of "plane crashes". God brought in their promised Messiah on schedule Malachi 3:1, but He was condemned to death by the highest court of the land - the Sanhedrin. The most amazing & dark "plane crash" event of history, Matthew 27:41-51. And the magnitude of that event is identified by our very calendar - BC & AD. We now live in "The year of the Lord" AD 2016.
Even though our world has had "plane crash" disasters in every arena from the beginning, I am encouraged that God is big enough to ultimately have things under control. I don't lose sleep worrying that I'll be vaporized in a rude accident or nuclear war. (See "Rude Surprises" link 79) But I am thankful for the Salvation of Jesus Christ that brings peace & hope to individuals like myself. Have you connected?
