WAXING POLITICAL
Recently we were on the road to Phx. AZ, heading south from the Verde Valley. We entered the freeway between two cattle trucks which were loaded with probably 40 cows each, headed for the slaughter. I found this quite interesting because my mind had been full of confusion over the political re-election (U.S. Nov. 2012). It dawned on me that we were in the midst of cows. . . Even my daughter voted for him. . .
It amazes me that people will re-elect a president who has questionable roots, job performance, value system, religious background, wholesale & loose immigration policy, jobless economy, etc. . . . And according to many political analysts, it was only personal charm & charisma that won the election! Then his position on liberal social programs, gay rights, wholesale abortion, legalizing pot, and INCREASING DEBT spending is scary. (It used to be tax & spend – now it’s spend, borrow, then tax.) I would say God can’t bless much of the liberal agenda – neither can the laws of economics.
Abraham Lincoln warned of these seven steps to government failure:
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot lift the wage-earner up by pulling the wage-payer down.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot establish sound social security on borrowed money.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.
How uncanny that today’s liberal agenda has these exact positions! A famous writer once said, “financial collapse is as good as military defeat.” - Anonymous - When I look at the determination up there to spend us into bankruptcy, and a complete smear campaign against anything responsible, I suspect a high – level spiritual conspiracy to destroy this country. The root problem may be a bad spirit blowing over the U.S., and the liberals may be unwittingly serving our adversary. See 2 Chronicles 18:18-22 This president may have charm and a great smile, but it doesn’t fool me. Jesus said, “you will know them by their fruits.” Matthew 7:16 There are some Bible students who believe he is the predicted end time character of Revelation chapter 13. While I haven’t gone there yet, I cannot believe that a deviously won second term presidency is a valid one . . .
Henry Kissinger said, "Ninety percent of the politicians give the other ten percent a bad reputation." Thomas Jefferson said, “The whole of government consists in the art of being honest.” There is another agenda when I see the president taking multi-million dollar vacations back-to-back, in the face of a national debt CRISIS. And nowadays it appears that polarization and dog-eat-dog politics is normal. God help us. The Book reveals that “a house divided cannot stand.” Matthew 12:25 Our adversarial form of govt. process was a great experiment for a couple hundred years, but now without the emphasis on God’s values & personal integrity, it appears to be falling apart.
Those who care about their country should pray for the leaders to get along & solve national problems like reasonable adults. We should also pray for a leader like Lincoln or Reagan to emerge. We should pray for a national revival – (hopefully it’s not too late.) “If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 And any national recrudescence of religious values has to start with the individual. Are YOU saved? If not, why not? It’s just a matter of getting our lame egos out of the way long enough to believe & pray for salvation. The price has already been paid by Jesus when he was offered for your sin and mine. “If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 “Behold I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me." Revelation 3:20 Choose Jesus, He is alive. And be blessed on the way to glory, even if national politics are on the rocks.
